Jazz Elemental

July 19th to July 31st (day sessions only from 9am to 12pm)

inset 1

This brilliant introduction to the joys of playing jazz is led by Comox Valley's Randy Wedel and is designed for those students not yet ready for a full program. The focus for this two-week program is on developing ensemble playing, improvisational skills, and enhancing performance skills on a variety of instruments. Instrumentation includes soprano, alto, and tenor recorders, xylophones, metallophones, full percussion instruments (kit, congas, and small percussion), and string bass. Interested students should have previous recorder experience.

If there is sufficient interest, more advanced students would attend an afternoon session from 1pm to 4pm each day

Students enjoy the opportunity to explore the various instruments of the ensemble and their roles in playing jazz. The ensemble experience significantly develops their level of musical ability, understanding, and enjoyment....

After spending 2 weeks with these students the pride in their faces and the music they create at their showcase performance is a pleasure both for them and the audience.”
– Randy Wedel
